Have recently been learning to use PHP with SQL (or vice versa), and fiddling with setting up tables in a database. It's been interesting! The semi-recent realization that the phpBB database can be added to and used for a variety of things has been very helpful. (^*^);

You see, having more than one database on the current hosting service costs extra. So being able to use the one for multiple things has been wonderful.

The first test in using the database was creating a new character sheet handler for pShift. At first, it was using flatfiles like everything else (heck, the news page here still is; have to fix that).

The newest test has been setting up and working with tables for a new chat room system. It's interesting! (^*^); Streaming chat may not be something we can do here, but we'll have to find out later. For now, just getting the chat to work in general has been interesting.

It currently handles multiple users, each with multiple handles to post with, and separate, editable profiles for each handle (as well as contacts information for each user). It also now handle multiple rooms, including public and private (though privates are currently listed if they've been posted to in the past day; this is just to test how the system works, it'll be changed eventually).

There are other little things too, of course, like setting IC/OOC defaults for each handle (role players will understand this ^*^), as well as having a handle default for your account. Right now, this is not an optional "This handle shows up first each time you log in" type handle default. Whenever you post with a handle (or just click the Update button), that becomes your default (and when you go to edit your profile, that handle will be the one you can edit). Of course, scroll back is also an option (only if you're logged in), etc.

Right now, there is no system for applying for new handles or accounts yet, but anybody can log in with the guest account (username: guest, password: guest). There will be these things eventually, but right now it's all in alpha stage of development. (^*^); Things will be moving forward soon!

Don't be surprised if there are odd messages or errors that pop up now and then. Being in such an early stage of development, things like that are bound to happen (some intentional, some not). Anyways, check it out, have fun!

Where we stand
Ya, things have been pretty quiet for a while. You know how that goes. Lots of mini projects going on in the background, and none of them coming to fruition because of offline things that get in the way.

Applying for college and all that. Ya, big stuff. We all have our busy things that get in the way. In the meantime, little sites have been sprouting up on here unannounced. Things like pShift, Atma's Public House, and a couple of works- in- progress, like Limits of Infinity. Limits of Infinity is the name that has been floating around for a while now, as a general productions / studio thing. It's nothing official, but a name we've been using. (^*^)

In the meantime, trying to get things together a little better. Trying to organize people is much like hearding cats, but I'm sure that at least some sense of loose organization can be accomplished. Eventually, this main site will be revamped. It really needs it. The whole thing was put together as a test in how to use PHP, and I've gotten a little better since then. Maybe not by much, but certainly an improvement. (^*^)'

We might have some Google ads showing up on here soon. Hey, they're nice and unobtrusive. And I figure it's good to get these things out of the way, since we have to worry about things like designing the site to fit the ads in, ya?

So don't worry, this isn't just some ghost website. We're just in such early stages, and really lacking in organization. We'll get better, rest assured!

Slow but sure
Distractions, distractions.. life is full of them.

Still, we try and do what we can, here and there. (^*^) The forums are online, if a little vacant right now.

The Beldace ed Entrili setting has been moved from its old location and modified into a single, PHP file. It's incomplete, but there is some info there for the role playing (rp) forum on this site. Some of it (topography) will be put together once there are characters and places (huts, farms, etc.) to add to it.

An Amber Alert ticker has been added to the front page, but not the rest of the site. This way, everyone can see it when coming here, but it doesn't slow down the rest of the site. Please don't ignore it.

Tha's all for the now. Hopefully will be able to get more work in on the site than lately. We'll see!

oooh Layouts
Miniverse.nu is coming along nicely. Yay Kasha! ^^ My own perl/PHP projects are coming along nicely as well. Yay Me!

Profiles, sidebars, and layouts- Oh my!
Things are going pretty well. Yesterday was a good day for the site, updating it in a couple important ways.Firstly, links on each poster's handle showing at the bottom of weblog posts (like on this page and the 'creativity' page) points to the poster's profile instead of their journal. Which is of course another part of the update--profiles for everyone on here so far. (^*^)

Next is the sidebar which links, or will link, to every page of this site. Seperated it into 'onsite' and 'offsite' so people have an idea what to expect; offsite links going to other websites. This should be updated more eventually, and hopefully have more functionality in the future.. For now it just exists to make things a little easier.

Other than that, have been tweaking the site's layout, and think it seems to be coming along.. taking up stylesheets, and it's pretty fun so far. (^*^)' (probably trying to teach myself too many things at once)

Oh! And not to forget.. the phpBB forum added in. It isn't done yet, though it is linked from the navigation bar. So far the only section is 'Admin Only', so it isn't up for public use just yet. But it will be, as things keep moving along. (^*^)
