To participate in recreational activity, ideally with an understanding of the game.

Summary

One of the main focuses of play in pShift, apart from just having good fun, is the recurring paradigm shifts. While minor shifts may occur as frequently as a day-to-day basis, depending on outlaw activity and the like, these would largely go unnoticed, or at least unattended. However, on occasion, something significant happens; the paradigm is altered enough to change landscapes, local laws, the availability of certain technologies, or any number of notable things. It is only when this happens, that an official Paradigm Shift is declared.

Every few months, the setting of pShift will see a similarly large-scale change, based around the actions of player-characters which have been approved, and had their RPs logged and turned in. There will be a one-week notice before a major paradigm shift, so that active players can prepare to embrace the changes. During this time, it would be good to consider how the changes may effect your character; how much their memory may or may not be altered, what may happen to their friends and family, and the state of their possessions. There will be a small preview made available both on the forums, and on the site; just a paragraph or two outlining what sort of things are important to consider to prepare for the upcoming change. (Paradigm page coming soon.)

Apart from the paradigm shifts, it's important to remember, that non-jumper characters, without a significant stance in society (being a political figure or top researcher of some kind), do not need to be applied for. Characters that do have a signifcant impact on the world, and especially Jumpers of any kind, require application as per the guidelines on this site. If you're unsure whether your character is ready for play, and you just want to test the waters, characters that would normally need approval may be played for up to two weeks prior to application. Approved characters act retroactively, meaning that if you've logged your role plays with that character before applying, you can turn in those RPs upon approval of the character so that their actions may impact the current (and potentially the next) paradigm.
